1969 Camaro
In the early 80s, I bought a 1969 Camaro SS 350 that is pushing 300 HP from my ex-brother in law. It has a X 55 on the cowl tag and is a Norwood car. One of the previous owners had wrecked it. Unfortunately the numbers don't match, but at least who ever did it, put the correct, or at least very close to the correct engine back in it. The engine block number is 39770014. Also, someone had replaced the original 3 speed with a 4 speed. Below is a picture taken after I did a partial restore in the 80s. In 1995, with 3 children in the house and a house to pay for, etc, etc, I parked it and basically neglected it until August 2006. Now, it is time to get it back to what it should be. After perusing several catalogs, it is great to see that there are many more parts available now than there was back then. I am especially glad that all the parts for the enclosed headlights, and the console gauges are available as they were two things that I did not add back then.
So far, I have the engine running and have been driving it. Of course, I replaced all the hoses, belts, battery, and ignition parts. I have rebuilt the brake system and put on a new exhaust system.
After all those years of neglect, I have a long job in front of me as much sheet metal work must be done. Fortunately, there are some excellent welders where I work and one has done several Camaros. He is looking forward to helping me with this one. It is great to have like him. I expect this to be a 2-3 year project and am planning on doing much of the work myself. What I don't know how to do, I am going to learn. What I know I can't do, will be done by professionals who fully understand what I expect from them.
Mid to late 80s after partial restore
The following pictures are taken after 11 years of neglect. Yea, I know, I need my butt kicked.
OK, I finally washed it. The interior cleaned up nicely. The front upholstery was replaced in the 80s. The back upholstery is original.
More to come as the project continues............
