growth to this second year colony this year.  If I wasn't witnessing it, I would be believe it.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>This is the second year for the colony where I work.  Last year, the colony was started by an ASY pair and they eventually drew in nine pair of SY birds.  So, the 10 pair ended up laying 39 eggs and fledging 37 birds.  The two that did not fledge, nor even hatch, were laid in a gourd and forgotten.  I guess the SY pair forgot what gourd they were using.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>During the off season, I added a second Gemini rack, and 24 Troyer Horizontal gourds.  I split the gourds up so that they were 12 Super Gourds and 12 Troyer Horizontals on each rack.  I also continued with the 50/50 mix of WDC Modified Excluder and Excluder II entrances.  I placed an equal number on Super Gourds and Troyer's gourds.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>On April 3, 2011, the first pair showed up.  By the 7th, there were at least 20 birds here even though we were in the middle of a planned outage and had a lot more people moving about, as well as, more equipment.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>On the first next check, April 25th, there were 22 nest ready for eggs, with another 7-10 partially prepared nests.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>Nest check on 5/16/11 revealed 30 active nests with eggs.  They were a total of 137 eggs.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>Nest check on 5/24/11. revealed 40 active nests with eggs/hatchlings/or both.  There were 123 eggs and 78 hatchlings.  There were several more nests that looked as if they were ready for eggs, but will not count them until I see eggs.  </B></div> <bR> <div> <B>Only 48 cavities are offered.  They consist of 24 Supergourds and 24 Troyer Horizontal Gourds.  Of these, the 12 Supergourds are equipped with 12 tunneled WDC entrances and 12 tunneled Excluder II entrances.  Likewise, the Troyer's are equally divided with 12 WDC and 12 Excluder II entrances.  Of the 24 Supergourds, 20 have been chosen.  Of the Troyer's Horizonals, 20 have been chosen.  On the entrance choice, 22 WDC entrances are being used, and 18 Excluder II entrances are being used.  The breakdown is like this: 11 Supergourd equipped with tunneled WDC, 11 Troyer Horizontals with Excluder II entrances, 9 Supergourd equipped with tunneled Excluder II, and 9 Troyer Horizontals with WDC entrances.</B></div> <bR> <bR> <div> <IMG SRC="10a7ee330.jpg" border=0
